FIFA FOOTBALL WORLD CUP ANALYSIS FROM 1930-2018

This visualization demonstrates insights of all FIFA world cup matches from the first edition which took place in 1930, to the most recent one in 2018. The total attendance by fans worldwide is 39,751,586.

The fan attendance is in accordance with the World Cup hosted every 4 years. From the chart above, there’s no record of World Cup in 1942 and 1946. In 1942, Germany officially applied to host the FIFA World Cup at the 23rd FIFA Congress in Berlin (1936). However, Brazil opted to apply for same hosting in 1939 and as a result of the conflict, the World Cup tournament was cancelled.

In 1946, FIFA didn’t have the resources to plan a peaceful tournament due to the World War II that took place and at the end of the War in 1945, it was obvious FIFA couldn’t make plans of the tournament within a year, so the competition didn't take place.

Nonetheless, the competition resumed in 1950 with a total attendance of 1,045,246. However, the fan appearance/attendance kept increasing over the years. The highest attendance ever recorded was the Brazil vs Uruguay ‘DECIDING MATCH’ in 1950 with the number of attendance which stood at 173,850.

The highest average attendance was recorded at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The attendance in this stadium stood at 68,991.

Generally, a total of 457 teams had qualified for the World Cup with 13 teams qualifying in 1930, 16 teams in 1934, etc. The number of teams qualified for the Cup increased to 32 in 1998 till 2018.

Over the years, Brazil has never failed to up their goal-scoring tactics. The team have scored 182 goals and 47 goals in their home and away team matches respectively, thus, a total of 229 goals. Followed by Brazil is Argentina, who’s scored a total of 138 goals in both their home and away matches.

However, there have been a total of 21 FIFA Football World Cup tournament hosted by Countries including; Uruguay, Italy, France, Brazil, etc, with Uruguay, Italy, Germany FR, Brazil, England, Argentina, France, Spain, and Germany, emerging the World Cup Winners.
